Where we got this book: I received this book as part of the Dorrance Publishing Book Review Team in exchange for my honest opinion of the book.
Overview from Dorrance Publishing: Carlos is a young boy who has many friends. He meets them each morning to play. But he is especially excited when a neighbor gives him a cute, fuzzy chick to take to school.
Carlos loves his new friend and so do his schoolmates, but they still have to decide on a name for him. Señor Pico is the perfect name! As the children grow, so does Señor Pico – but he grows white feathers and soon appears sad. The children decide that maybe he needs a new home, but how can they part with their newfound friend?
The Story of Señor Pico / La Historia del Señor Pico is a bilingual children’s book that teaches cognitive, linguistic, social, emotional, and multicultural developmental tasks to young children while keeping their interest with a fine feathered friend.
Dahlia Bookworm’s Thoughts (11 years old): I liked the whole story. I like how it is in Spanish and English, so I can learn some Spanish. I like the colors in the illustrations. I could read the English by myself and needed help from my mom for the Spanish. I would recommend it to other kids, especially if they want to learn some Spanish.
Daisy Bookworm’s Thoughts (7 years old): I liked the book. I like the story of Senor Pico growing up. I liked learning about what the kids did for Senor Pico. I would recommend it to other kids too. I liked the pictures in the book.
Mommy Bookworm’s Thoughts: I thought this was a cute little story about a chicken and the children who took care of him. I requested this book because of the bilingual nature of it. I like how the author put the English above the illustrations and the Spanish below them on the same page because it makes it easy to read together and try to improve Spanish vocabulary. The illustrations are very cute and colorful. I would encourage anyone who is trying to increase their Spanish vocabulary and/or learn Spanish to read this…. not just children. It is a simple, nice story that is not too hard when you’re just starting to learn Spanish.

This looks like a delightful book. One I would like to share with my family. Thanks for the review.
